Renata has held various roles in mental health and educational settings over the past 15 years. Before training as a child and adolescent psychotherapist, Renata was a qualified psychologist in Brazil working with adolescents and adults in a psychoanalytically informed therapeutic community setting.
Renata trained as Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist at the Independent Psychoanalytic Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Association (ipcapa) within the British Psychotherapy Foundation (bpf). During her 4-year training, Renata worked in CAMHS where she offered therapeutic treatment to young children, school-aged children and adolescents, as well as supporting their parents and families. More recently, she worked as a lead psychotherapist for an outreach NHS service within primary schools, working with parents and offering supervision and consultation to therapeutic and teaching staff.
Renata completed her professional doctorate with the Anna Freud Centre and UCL. Her research looked into a Mentalisation-Based Treatment Group approach to working with a high-risk population of parents.
Renata has extensive experience working with children and adolescents of various ages presenting with complex mental health difficulties. She takes a developmental approach in her work with children and adolescents, understanding their journey and meeting their needs at their current stage of development. Her practice is based on clinical experience as well as academic and research knowledge of emotional development and mental health.
