Our clinicians are available to talk through your concerns over the phone and can advise as to whether therapeutic help might be beneficial. We offer appointments throughout the day and run evening clinics throughout the week, including Saturdays. We are also able to offer sessions via Zoom where we feel this is clinically appropriate.

Mrs Flora Maclay

Flora is a Consultant Chartered Counselling Psychologist. She is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Flora specialises in working with children, young people and families of all ages and stages. Starting as a youth worker in London, she worked in schools, community and GP settings throughout her training. She developed an interest in looked after children, researching and publishing on the lived experience of foster carers. She still retains a special interest in psychological support within schools and youth work settings.

Qualifying in 2005, Flora has now worked in independent practice in Edinburgh for over 20 years. Over time, she has developed expertise in delivering evidence-based psychological support tailored to the needs of individual clients and their families. She is an experienced clinician skilled in assessing the challenges that clients bring and in building relationships across families.

Flora offers short-term consultations as well as ongoing therapeutic work. This includes child-led play therapy, adolescent-focused therapy and family work. She values getting to know clients and their strengths and resources as well as their challenges. She uses a playful and collaborative approach to build trust and understanding with the aim of finding ways to move forward.

Flora is trained in a number of therapeutic models which she uses to help understand and work with challenges that clients face. These approaches include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based therapy, psychodynamic therapy, person-centred and systemic approaches. She is happy to liaise with other professionals such as psychiatrists, psychologists, schools and social workers.

Flora also offers offers consultations and workshops, supporting parents and teachers looking to understand and support the development of children from pre-conception to adulthood. She has experience in supporting parents across a broad spectrum of challenges.

Alongside her work with clients, Flora provides supervision to other professionals in the field. She also designs and delivers training on therapeutic work with children, adolescents and families in independent practice and university settings.
